IT'S NOT ALL GLITTER AND RAINBOWS...
It's not all glitter and rainbows... was a solo show on view at the Brentwood Arts Exchange from November 5th - December 29th, 2018.
In a continuous study of patterns, sacred geometry, color and movement, artist Jordann Wine, invites us to reflect on the infinite. With the playful use of glitter, she vibrantly engages the viewer, welcoming contemplation, meditation, and an endless exploration of the elements that connects us all.
Glitter, commonly dismissed as an ordinary craft material, is elevated to a painterly standard as she foregrounds the material’s inherent qualities of holding and releasing light. Making use of the medium’s full range of iridescent, opaque, and translucent color qualities, she transforms the childish or garish reputation of glitter into a reflective cosmic field. Reflective surfaces instinctually remind people of water, the element most critical to survival. Glitter’s shimmering surfaces, reminiscent of light hitting water, attracts the viewer into the work, evoking the appeal of both the movement of water as flow and the introspective quality of water as stillness.
In this collection, Jordann explores the color wheel in glitter to further activate the play of light moving across the work by using gradual color gradients in each composition. Patterns of concentric, intersecting, and free-flowing circles create another layer of movement and depth, as they reference portals and vibrational sound waves. Working in series and at a scale where the collective work is on some walls up to 15 feet across, she offers an immersive experience that intends for the viewer to both sit with and walk along the work, but in all cases to journey beyond the limits of only seeing glitter and rainbows.
